what is Islam? Five pillars of Islam

The five pillars of Islam
Muslims follow the five basic pillars of their faith. These include:

  1. Shahada: declaring one’s faith in God and belief in Muhammad.
  2. Salah: to pray five times a day (morning, noon, afternoon, sunset, and evening).
  3. Zakat: giving to the needy.
  4. Swam: fasting during Ramadan.
  5. Hajj: to make a trip to Mecca at least once in one’s life if one is able.

Islamic prayer

The Prophet Muhammad was commended for building the first Muslim church in the courtyard of his house in Medina. Muslims today follow some of the same principles he established in 622 AD.

Islamic prayer is usually conducted in a large open space of a mosque or in an outdoor courtyard. The mihrab is a decorative element or niche in a mosque that points the way to Mecca, hence the guide to deal with it during prayer.

Men and women pray separately, and Muslims can visit a Muslim church five times a day for each of the prayer times. In addition to holding prayers, Muslims often serve as public meeting places and community centers.

Islamic holidays
The two major Muslim holidays are:

  1. Eid al-Adha: celebrates the determination of the prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son for the sake of Allah.
  2. Eid al-Fitr: marks the end of Ramadan – the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Islam Today
In recent years, the so-called Islamist movement of terrorism and genocide has stirred up controversy in many lands. The controversial term “radical Islam” has become a popular label describing religious connections and acts of violence.

While some Muslims use their faith to justify terrorism, the majority do not. In fact, Muslims are often the victims of violence themselves.

A recent study found that in predominantly Muslim countries, the majority of Muslims have very negative views of terrorist groups such as ISIS.

. Today, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Experts predict that Islam will overtake Christianity as the largest religion by the end of the century.
